Why do you like B/W? created by Floridamolle on Jan 29, 2007:

I like B/W of many reasons, as photographer I like the challange. With color you often get a lot for free, like a sunset, with color you "just have to click", but try it in B/W and you will find that it takes a lot of good photography to get a good pic.

I too love Black & White. It is indeed challenging since one has to know how to 'see' in mono. Light, contrast and good range of tones would make a successful b&w; image. THanks to digital it is now easier to experiment with colored image. Love all your b&w; photos Anders. Hope to see more of them.

We are seeing the world in colors, so, when you see a b/w photo, it leaves room for imagination, for interpretation, for personal emotions... b/w is what we choose to see

I love b/w because without color, everything gets reduced to textures, shapes and "feeling", which is definitely more challenging to see when you're first looking at a subject. Light and shadow has more meaning. The pictures are often more "moody"... When done right, they are like poetry.

What post processing do you do with your black and white images? created by Jasontengco on Nov 2, 2006:

i usually adjust only the brightness and contrast and if the photo has alot of texture, then i use the sharpen tool to make them stand out more.

I like fussing around with PS and b/w is one of my favorites subjects for PS. I rarely mess with brightness/contrast tools.. I'll use curves, levels or highlight/shadow and on occasion threshold. Overlays/screens to increase depth/intensity; selective dodge/burn if necessary. Some of my favorite articles on b/w conversion can be found at luminous-landscape.com, dgrin.smugmug.com, MarkusHartel.com, kk.org and retouchpro.com
