I'm using a Mac and firefox. When I upload my pictures to tabblo and enlarge them, the pictures go out of focus. Example is in my last tabblo, the writing is unreadable yet I'm able to read it on my Mac screen. In order for my pics to focus properly on tabblo, I have to reduce the size. I've only recently seen this problem since my return to tabblo. Thanks in advance for checking.

Your original Angel of the Lost Bells photo is only 360 x 270 pixels. It looks like your upload process is uploading reduced-size pictures. Have you recently changed how you upload photos?

OK, I found the Flickr uploader! It was on the LEFT side, though. And when I clicked on Upload on the toolbar, my Firefox kept freezing up. I finally got to it by clicking on Make - Online.

But I'm still looking for suggestions on uploading directly from iPhone!

When will we get the search engine. It's been over a year, Eric...why can't the engineers create a simple search engine. And the tags of course don't function either. I think Tabblo is the only site on the entire web without a search engine.

I made a series of tabblos last fall (30 or 40 that linked together) and sometime within the six months that followed almost all of the text shrunk. (I'm not sure when it happened but just noticed it when I went back to have a look.)

I've tried to go back and increase the size and sometimes I can but most times it won't work. Sometimes I get an error message, sometimes nothing happens, sometimes part of a paragraph will go to a larger font and the rest stays the same. I've noticed that in the thumbnail images the text is the original size. Also, tabblos I made before and after that project are fine.

Any ideas? I want to print the tabblos out to put in a notebook and the thought of slogging through all the pages to fix something that wasn't broken is daunting!

You can use different layouts to achieve a larger canvas size. Borderless #6 works well for me.

Pages with a ton of images will normally load a bit slower. Also pages with a lot of content, like this one, will as well. BUT...it shouldn't be terribly noticeable. I'll check into this and see what I can do. One solution is to paginate these forums, so the loading page is much smaller. I've had an enhancement request in for that issue for a while now. Thanks a bunch for letting me know you were having issues.

Apparently there is an issue with the delivery of the drop shadow image on Tabblos that use it. It's a written bug that's being looked at as I write this. I'm sorry for not updating earlier, but I wanted to make sure it was being looked at.

Yesterday we had a problem "delivering" images at one point yesterday. So some tabblos that were made during that time had problems displaying certain images which is why some tabs were in error. I've since gone in and reflowed these tabs, so the thumbnail should be visible. Sorry for the inconvenience!

There really isnt actually a way to re-order. Once you begin a tabblo, edit save and may not even publish....the day you started working on it remains the date it was and always will be. you cannot switch around the order they are numbered from most recent back all the way back to the first one ever made. i.e. if you were working on several and wanted the date to conincide with your 'publish' date....it would still say the first date you 'saved it' for future work/edits. Anyway Tabblo exec may know something diff. but I've made birthday surprize tab ahead of time and they still show the date i first started working on them....not date actual b.d. date. HOPE THAT HELPS A WEE BIT pmc

Thanks for the quickly reply! Fortunately I only completed 3 before I recognized the error of my ways. I just have to delete those and just hope no one comes up with photos of 3 years ago that need to be in order.

Now that I think of it, I guess I could always add those "in between" date photos into a Tabblo that is close in time. Then just change the title to include two events.

what I do (this was a tip I received when I was a newbie): if I'm working privately on a tab and it's been there for a weeks let's say. I "MAKE A VARIATION" of it the day I want it to be publish. Once that I one goes PUBLIC, I delete the "working tabblo".

Left, remember the new guy here. I have noticed that sometimes when I have changed (variation) a Tab that I then have two - I have just deleted the oldest one. I'm not sure this has happened in all cases, but it didn't affect the order of the others.

What I think I am hearing is that you can play a game with the order by creating a variation and then it becomes the "newest". If I "finish" that particular Tab it will then move it to the "newest".

Knowing I can play the game that way, could be helpful, but my goal is not to change the order.

Help me with these definitions:

Save - is the working copy that isn't published
Finish - posts the Tab for everyone to see
Variation - creates a 2nd identical Tab to manipulate

If I just want to update a Tab, but not make it the newest, do I "edit" the finished Tab and nothing moves? Or if once it is finished, any editing will cause it to be the newest if I click "finish"?

It sounds like if I do an edit, and click save, it won't show until I click "finish".

Maybe instead of answering my questions, it would be easier to just say what happens in your own words.

Is any of this on the main site? I found the help section to be extremely basic - I don't need cute paragraphs - where is the detail in how the program works?

No Hotrod......once you click 'save'it is saved. As to editing later after its published you can ALWAYS 'edit' a tabblo any time even years laters. but the puslished date will stay the same as the date you first saved it. As for the variation idea from LeftofCentre, I've never tried that ...heck I can't even find it on my screen anymore 'make variation' but then I used to see it. I just kinda don't worry about what day it SAYS its published and try not to make any that I don't plan to publish pretty much immediately, anymore. Your defintions were correct though ie SAVE FINISH VARIATION. perhaps someone else may help you more? hope so and good luck! pmc

This is really getting addicting! Yes, I discovered that edit will allow me to jump in and make corrections, so everything is staying put. I only have to redo 3 of three once I get to year 2009 - I'm still at 2004...Yikes!

My current issue which is unrelated to order has to do with the edit bar at the bottom of the screen - it isn't coming up? It seemed like all I had to do was hover over a picture or the left side of the screen and I could choose tools, etc. Now, zero.

I tried refreshing the screen and that didn't do it. Is there some way to turn it on?

Hi again...I'm using IE 7 browser ....are you by chance using IE 8 (beta) or Mozilla Firefox, Safari ( on a MAC computer).....I discovered long ago (for IE 7 anyway) that when TOOLS( dont come up 1st time which they rearely do now).one single REFRESH works every time! So, perhaps it's a browser or a javascript programming issue with the tabblo site. i.e some browsers interpret javascript different on pages that tabblo must use.....LEMME KNOW. and then after that, I'd say click on Eric Foster's avatar as he is TABBLO exec who helps with these issues. pmc (sorry was out this afternoon!)

I always use a lay-out with rectangular format. I crop my photos when I edit and then upload to tabblo. Sometimes the photos are arbitrarily cropped again when entered into the lay-out. Is there an aspect ratio I can use when I crop my photos that will ensure they will appear in their entirety in the final tabblo?

You'll need to experiement. Don't forget you can pan and zoom photos within templates on Tabblo too. I use that all the time.

Allan, I discovered a neat trick last year. When you edit your photos in your editing program, not Tabblo, use the "constrain to aspect ratio" (it's a check box on the crop tool) and your photos will be cropped as the digital camera took them, which, incidentally, coincides with the tabblo templates! No matter if you crop Portrait or landscape, they will fit the corresponding tabblo boxes. Does this make sense??

and also, you can test them, doing what Eric suggested. Use the pan tool and they should barley move inside the box. If you crop to any other ration, they will not fit perfectly. This is also true when you print your digital photos. I use 8/12 and that will not crop anything differently, as opposed to using 8x10 or 5x7 or even 4x6.

Thanks Eric and Pam. I went back and experimented, and for my purposes-I was working with scanned drawings-maintaining a 5X7 ratio worked. I'm familiar with the pan and zoom tool, but in this case, wouldn't pan enough. I had written captions on the drawings and they were cropped too much to compensate by panning. Zoom-in was doing what it does, but that was wrong direction for what I needed. Zoom-out was on vacation and didn't change a thing. Going back and re-editing after setting up 5x7 canvas size in photoshop gave me the correct ratio. It leaves me with a couple of extra flaps of color around the image, but that's not a big deal.

I can't imagine why you're not seeing a toolbar while in edit mode. Have you tried refreshing the page? Which browser are you using? I'm aware of some issues with the latest version of IE, which is IE8, but other than that I'm not aware of any problems.

Eric--there is definitely a problem. When I initially start the tabblo--upload photos, yada yada---the tool bar is there. However, when I uploaded more photos and returned to the tabblo--NO Toolbar. Poof--disappears and refreshing doesnot help. Hitting finish and coming back later doesn't work either. I had to start from scratch.

This happened last week on the tabblo I was working on. I gave up and when I returned the next day the tool bar showed up.

Still on Version7 IE but need to download 8...do not use Mozilla Firefox or other browsers..did manage to finish but lost title many times but just keep retyping after save and refresh (no problems only solutions lol) the odd thing that kept happening too despite MANY tries, refreshes, logouts was i was NEVER able to switch layouts ( a woman DOES have the prerogative to change her mind! hee hee). I wouldn't update to IE8 yet if you're hoping to use Tabblo. There are several known bugs, including not being able to move photos around when editing in IE8.

We'll offer support for that soon, but we're still working on it.

The image issue sounds similar to what AdSR and several other people described, and I need to know if you're currently still experiencing this problem. The reflow issue is something I've seen myself and I'll update the ticket I have open on it. I usually see it before I click "allow overlap." After I click it the problem goes away. My standard for making Tabblos, regardless of eventual view is Borderless 6 column, medium grid, allow overlap and then I just "design" on my own. That seems to give me a pretty clear palate to work on.

But as I said, I'll update the ticket and see about putting it in front of the right engineer again. I'm sorry you're having so much trouble Deb...keep me updated.

yesterday i changed the pic on my tabblo concentric circles///////it took forever for the grayed out screen look to go away. so long i went in and out multiple times. i also had problems today just waiting and waiting for a person's tab to load OR if i wanted to leave a comment it just took so long i's hit refresh and try again. or go back later/ I even called my cable co to complain my internet is so. SLOW and they say not on their end. ihave no spyware and keep firefox and all updated i am the only usuer on my mac, so i don't know why there is such a lag I HAVE THE FASTEST road runner they offer/ thanks very much for getting back to me so quick! :) Deb

I thought that a search by username/tag might viable so I'm trying to find some traction for that approach. I push for search on a daily basis...much to the consternation of our engineers. The matter of fact is we're a very small group in terms of actual people and search functionality on Tabblo will take engineering time that's not currently available.

I understand that search is an expected functionality on a website like Tabblo and I'll keep pushing for it.

Text over a link. I'm guess you're referring to embedding a link into text. Make sure you're in edit mode and have the text box in your tabblo with the text window open. Type your content and then highlight the text you want to make clickable and click the "Link" button in the text window. It's directly to the LEFT of the text color button and looks like a link in a chain.

I usually copy the link and paste it into the appropriate field.

At first the edit function worked but when I came back to continue making my tabblo later, could not get it to work again. I use windows xp prof operating system, and IE 7 browser. If I upload lots of photos, like 40 or 50, tabblo accepts my upload and my transfer into a lightbox, and will dump them all into a haphazard online tabblo. But then when I try to move photos around to put into chronological order, change sizes, etc cannot do. I go to edit and do not see toolbars across bottom of screen. I have tried to begin a tabblo with just a few pics, hoping to add pics as I go along but edit function does not work this way either. Have tried to empty cache, restart browser, etc but n.g. Have deleted about 5 new unfinished tabblos, and have 2 that I started and can't work with up now. PLease help. Thanks, John

We were actually able to capture some information about a week ago and I've got a ticket in on it. Up until then I've not been able to reproduce the issue, but hopefully we'll have it resolved soon. I'll check in with the engineers today in regards to progress and I'll try to update.

Eric, I downloaded latest version of IE today, IE8, hoping it would make a difference. But no help, seems to have made things worse. Now when I get to "Make" page, I get a "browser warning" that it appears I am using an old browser version of IE & that tabblo does not work well with 5.5 or less! There is still a small problem though: If you change the style during edit, title editing stops working (at least in FF 3.0.5). The workaround is to move away from the edit page and come back to it through a link (I haven't tried reloading). This problem existed before the latest issue as well.

This has been happening to me for two days now and I thought at first that someone was working on it. I was able to get around it by using a short cut e.g http://www.tabblo.com/studio/view/ or by going back a page. I tried deleting the TABBLO cookie several times in case that had been corrupted, but to no avail. I also notice that the "back to Tabblo" button used to bring me back to the editable tabblo instead of the viewing Tabblo, so I suspect that this is one and the same path errors. Mike.

Just found the offending Path: If you click on the TABBLO logo( Top LH corner ) to go to the home page, the URL changes back to the www.tabblo.com and so the cycle of errors resumes. Create a shortcut on the tool/side bar or bookmark the URL as in comment two and that should solve it until the links are corrected.]

Everyday I go in and try to make a tabblo, sometimes the same one over and over again. Each time the same thing keeps happening. I can't edit the title text, can't move other textboxes, can't bin things, can't adjust size of images or pan. And of course, the toolbar keeps disappearing so I can't work with the tabblos anyway. I get out, and try to get back in to re-edit the tabblos, but I come back to a "frozen" tabblo without toolbars to which I can't edit a thing. Eric I've already sent you my screenshot, pages browser details Windows IE, XP. I've noticed some others with the same PCs and browsers having the same trouble. But it's been weeks and I haven't been able to complete any tabblos. It probably only happens to tabblos with multiple images though?

FYI - I do NOT work for Tabblo - but know this will help.

When reporting problems, share with Tabblo

* your operating system (e.g. windows xp, windows vista, MAC Leopard etc...)
* browser (e.g. firefox 3.1, IE7, Safari 3.1 etc...)
* a link to your tabblo

It will probably help them figure out what is going on. They test on "their browsers" and the "browsers they plan to support". But then there is the rest of us working with our real browsers.

For those on Mac Leopard... the latest 10.5.6 update did some weird stuff to Safari. Getting several unexpected behaviors with Gmail, Smugmug ... so that could be it too.

I get the impression from the diagram at the top of the tabblo editing web page that the safe area for the book page being edited should be visible as a pink outline, but I don't see one. Is there some way to turn on that option so the safe area outline is visible directly on the page being edited?"

I do not see a pink line indicating the safe area, either (I am using Safari 3.2.1 and Firefox 3.0.4). Should there be one? Do we still need to keep 2 grid squares away from the edge to be safe? And if so, how do we know how far that is? (The option to change grid lines (which I can't see anyway) from coarse to med to fine is nowhere to be found in either of my browsers.)

Now when I view a pdf of my photobook, the entire page (straight up to all 4 edges) is visible. Does this mean the entire page is safe?

Finally, do we need to worry about keeping a safe area from the binding? In other words, will the (even/odd) pages lose a bit from the (right/left) inside edge because it will be buried in the binding? Or does Tabblo already take this into account in the tabblo editing web page (so everything we can see there will be safe from the inside binding?

Until we restore the grid the best reference to how your book will look is to view the PDF. If you look at the PDF you will notice that we take the binding edge into account when creating the pages. Sorry for the inconvenience and I'll keep the thread updated as we progress.

I've looked at both, the Tabblo of your book (in edit mode) and the PDF of your book. If you're happy with the spacing in between some of your photos then I think it's fine. Of course, if you find any problems once you receive the book make sure to let me know.

I think this happens when you have preferred content language in the browser set to something other than "en", e.g. "pl-PL" (my case). Then just go to any tabblo with comments (or, say, recent tabblos) to see that.

I noticed that when I create a Tabblo it is dated when I created it. However, if I need to work on it for any period of time, when I do post it, the date is not the day I actually posted. I started a tabblo yesterday but didn't post until today. But it is showing up as though I posted on Dec. 7 instead of today--
Dec 8. This is very misleading. I think that the date should be the day it is actually posted public or by invites.

The Tabblo ends up buried rather than at the beginning of the new tabblos. Is there anyway you can change that or do you have any suggestions.

I wish you guys knew how much I push for search functionality! I hazard to bring this up but we're working on something right now that may be a unique method of finding people and content on Tabblo. It's not a normal search box, but it's quite interesting and certainly a novel concept that we're working on. It's something we're investigating and I'll keep you updated.

Hello Tabblo....something funny has happened to the text box. When I drag one over, fill it in with some text, the ending area that is required is much greater than what is actually needed. Example, in the past, for me to put in two lines of text, I would make the text box size wide enough for two lines to fit in and maybe 3 or 4 medium grids in vertical length. Now to get the same results from 2 lines I need to extend the vertical length much more than 4 medium grids. It makes for much more empty space than whats really needed. Thanks for checkin.

I think you're the only person on the planet who preferred the old tool set. I'm sorry (happy?) to say it won't be back. I encourage you to become familiar with the new tools as I think you'll find them more appropriate. What, may I ask, did you like about the old toolset that you aren't finding in the new one?

while i didn't particularly like the "squirrelliness" of the old tool box, I did like that I could (1) reduce it's size and (2) get it out of the way when i needed too (especially when working with several photos). personally, i think that the new tool box is poorly placed, taking up too much of the bottom of the screen ... why not give us the option to place to drag it and/or place vertically at the side? further, i liked the ease of playing with different frame and background colors ... now the "customize" dialog box is on top of the photos (at least for me), plus first i have to g to style and then "customize" ... why can't we just have a "customize" box similar to the old tool bar "colors"?

lastly, having to go to the "advanced" to change grid is a bit much, why not allow for grid change in the "layout" or "style" box? maybe this is a firefox issue, but the "fine" grid will not show up for me when i am making a tabblo.

If you click on the tab at the top of the tool box (tools, photos, layout etc) it will go down into the bottom of the screen and only be the size of the bottom tool bar on firefox... This may help with that problem... (then click it again to make it larger).

Click "customize a style" on the far left under the style names to change colors of any part of the style or lettering...

Please fix the search engine. It should be an integral part of a site. Nearly every site now a days has a search function. What was wrong with the old one. If it ain't broke, guys, don't fix it.

The reason the old one is gone is because HP and Google/Picasa (why we have no download button anymore from Picasa) parted ways i.e. license agreement ran out???? some 6 months ago. i think this may be why the problem occurs...

what's happening, i think, is that the scroll back function is NOT using a set piece of memory and is instead reproducing itself ad-infinitum when you scroll back and forth instead of reuse the memory it has allocated. a common high level programming fault. In single processor operating systems (xp) it will cause a stack overflow. in multiprocessor ones, an out of memory fault, as vista and like os' have a non-executable memory area to prevent that. my best guesses so far. i'll see if i can find a way to capture the memory usage from performance analyzer in windows

Notice in Safari 3.1.2 (latest release for PC), the tools are on the other side of the page, which differs from IE 7 and 8, but the tools are lightning fast and pics and tools work very well in this browser. Would recommend this browser if Internet Explorer has issues in the creation of a tabblo. Will see what chrome, opera, and mozilla/seamonkey do as well.

Debs ....those issues have happened to me several times in the past....just had to 'start all over again'....(yup couldnt even find a teeny tiny edge of pic to resize! - they just seem to jump down way down and then 'gone' somehwere....jumping bean pics! lol ) Good luck and glad eric's on it but for me, i just 'shut down' tabblo until i'm over the 'aggravation'' (always seems to happen in fine grid tho.

Another question Eric, why so often in a user to user msg do we get this 'STACK OVERFLOW AT LINE ???" MSG and the whole page cannot be shut down w/o soft reboot and msg of course doesnt go - lost forever and have to re-type,,,,,,,what does stack overflow MEAN?!

also when i was making 'reflections on car door...the images would not stay put, or the whole page or one image would be HUGE and you could not find the "garbage can" to get it back in you photo strip to try again, OR i'd switch the grid, and BLANK PAGE GONE! the whle tab except the color background....see how many times i deleted those tabs :) thanks
I also TRIED to make one called "meet the queen" which i deleted MULTIPLE times and never posted due to same probs THANKS for you response ;)

We updated a few things on Friday and it has apparently impacted the order of Tabblos in groups. We're looking into why this happened and what we can do to fix it.

IE or Mozilla firefox Andre......mades no diff....the groups and their line-up oldest to newest (i.e. you CAN see them if yu go to very END of all tabs in your group! as for 'featured' NOW THAT HAS TO BE FIXED. I very much enjoy being able to feature new tabs added to my groups! C'MON TABBLO GUYS....WE'RE WAITIN' on a response here - at least tell us you're 'AWARE OF THE ISSUES' OK? OK! THX!!!!!!!

That works for My Tabblos, but I am talking about all of the groups I belong to. When I go to a group the tabblos are now showing the oldest on the main page of the group. I have to go to the last tabblo of the group in order to see the newest submitted.

I noticed that too-when i receive an invitation and click on it i couldn't find the tabblo which seemed strange since they were new. I think it's a tabblo engineering glitch.

I, too, have come across this apparent glitch. Sometimes it is possible to click on "more" until you reach the end of the Group where the new tabblo I am trying to open is located. This does not always work, however. I hope that this is fixed soon.

No, we stopped supporting Picasa some time ago. Perhaps when you updated it imported your button data from the older version of Picasa. Feel free to delete the button.

I'm trying to print a simple 4 x 6 photo onto 4 x 6 photo paper from flickr to my photosmart c5280. every time i try to print, the printer grabs the paper from the 8 x 10 tray. what can i do?

When this happened to me I simply put the paper 4" x 6" in the 8" x 10" tray, in the top right hand corner, told the printer what size photo I wanted to print and bingo, it worked!

Thanks, all, for the help. I'm really angry and frustrated right now with HP/Tabblo. I contacted the HP help center to resolve this issue. I talked to two HP reps over the coursse of several hours, and even escalated this to a tech support manager. No one at HP has even heard of Tabblo and couldn't be convinced that it was an HP company. I eventually talked to a (somewhat) sympathetic manager, but she maintained that Tabblo was an outside company and they didn't have the resources to support it. So where do I turn? I posted to the Flickr forum, and was told that that was inappropriate--ok, fine. I posted here and got advice to contact HP, which makes sense, then I contact HP and they tell me it's not their problem. I'm pretty certain by now that there's some conflict between Tabblo's software and the HP driver and find it pretty hard to believe no one at HP has heard of this issue. But there remains this tempting little option on Flickr that says "print at home with HP," which leads me right to Tabblo. Where to turn?

Firstly, Tabblo is owned by HP and we're located inside of one of the larger east coast HP facilities.

Tabblo has nothing to do with which tray your printer pulls paper from so I don't think the resolution lies on my end but perhaps I'm not fully understanding your issue.

How are you trying to print out photos? Are you saving them to your computer and then trying to print? Are you trying to print individual photos or are you trying to print out a Tabblo of many photos? Does everything work as anticipated with the exception of the paper being pulled from the wrong tray?

There is no Tabblo "software" that could conflict with your printer drivers because Tabblo is completely web based and doesn't interact with your printer in any way, so I'm a bit confused.

I know Tabblo is owned by HP--the HP tech support people didn't. Once I said I was trying to print from a web-based application called Tabblo, they said that was a third party product and refused to assist me.
How could this be a hardware issue when every other application prints correctly to the 4 x 6 tray? Once HP determined that I could, in fact, print from other apps correctly and there was no hardware problem, they refused to help me further and said the problem lies squarely with the Tabblo interface.
Here's what I'm doing: Above my selected photo from my Flickr page, I select "prints and more." From there, I have the option to send for photos from HP, or "print at home from HP." I select "print at home from HP," which takes me to www.tabblo.com/partners/flickr/prints. Next page says "print on (inches)" and gives me some radio buttons. I select the 4 x 6 button and the photo tray from the following page. Page then confirms "4 x 6 prints, printing on 4 x 6 paper." I select that, having matched all of my settings, and...my printer tells me it's out of paper--it always wants to pull from that main tray, even though my settings are for the 4 x 6 tray.

This problem never was resolved. Flickr still includes the "print at home with HP" option, but it doesn't work. Has ANYONE ever been able to print a 4x6 photo from Flickr onto an HP printer (Mac OS) following this path?
