NYC 9/11 Memorial Field

Between 9/8/2006 and 9/11/2006 a soccer field in Inwood Hill Park in Upper Manhattan is being turned into a memorial field honoring the thousands who died on 9/11/2001.  Over three thousand flags on ten-foot poles have been planted.  They bear the names of the civilians and the rescue workers who were lost.  The field is open to everyone, between the hours of 8 A.M. and 10 P.M., during its brief existence.

Elsewhere in Inwood there is a plaque bearing the names of community residents -- civilians, rescue workers, and clergy -- who were lost in the attacks.  There are eighteen names on the plaque.  For the residents of Inwood the World Trade Center attacks were an assault not just on our country and on our city but on our friends and neighbors.

wow--wonderful to see (in the sense of support and love shown). By us, I was very disappointed that barely anyone flew a flag!!! :-(
