My Urban Vinyl Collection

Unlike typical toys like Barbies or Hot Wheels, which are mass produced, Urban Vinyl Toys are sold in limited runs of 500 to 2,000, increasing the demand and the sense that these are one of a kind pieces of art. "These toys are like Pop Art -- they're like sculptures," Urban Vinyl toy seller Paul Budnitz said in a recent interview with The Sacramento Bee. "The canvas happens to be a toy."

There is something that is very viscerally appealing about these guys. Do you know how they are manufactured?

I have a general understanding of the process. Artists, most notibly grafitti artists, work with companies like Kidrobot (kidrobot.com) to create the designs. Specs are sent to designers in China who create prototypes. Upon agreement of an acceptable prototype, production begins.
