Nepal epilogue: The Lukla Airport

Composite picture of a landing

Composite of a takeoff.

Another composite of a takeoff

The Lukla Airport sits at 9380 feet of elevation. The runaway is at an angle and is just shy of 1500 feet. There is very little room for error as the runaway ends on the side of the mountain. Sir Edmund Hillary directed the construction of he runway. His wife and one of his children actually died here after a crash land. This airport is the gateway to Mount Everest, unless you are willing to trek an additional five days just to get here.

These pictures are all Photoshop composites of at least three pictures each.

It looks very busy for a small one runway airport with closely stacked takeoffs and landings. Oops! That's the image editing.
