Paris Part 3 - Notre Dame and the Louvre (our last day)

The very last day of our 3 week European tour, we spent some time visiting the Louvre, where we had a nice lunch, and later the Notre Dame Cathedral. What a beautiful city Paris is....and we were so lucky to have lovely warm early summer weather.

After a very nice lunch at the Louvre, we were taken by bus near the Notre Dame Cathedral, where we disembarked to view the cathedral at close quarters and to also take a peek inside and see the very beautiful huge stained glass windows.  It is incredible when you think that these buildings were created in the days when there were no power tools, huge cranes and hydraulic lifting equipment or steel scaffolding.

A  last glimpse of the river Seine before we leave early next morning for the dockside and the beaches of Calais, to board our ferry boat across the English Channel to the white cliffs of Dover.

Then we spent a week in wet Wales....but it was fun visiting friends and family there, and we had a great time in spite of the rainy weather we encountered.  We couldn't complain because we had such wonderful weather n our 19 day tour of Euroope.

Below we saw the Eglise du Dome with it's beautiful golden dome which was  built for King Louis XIV's personal use in the late 1600's......we also caught our last glimpse of the Eiffel Tower.

Our morning visit was to the Louvre, where we had a limited tour, but managed to view the famous Mona Lisa, and several other well known works of art.   Unfortunately photography was prohibited in many areas, so I only managed to get a few shots in the outer areas., including some unusual window domes in the ceiling of one area.

Excellent images. I could feel the sun on my face in the outdoor images of the Paris sites. With the interiors I could sense the hush and wonder. And finally with the channel images I could feel the wind and hear the gulls calling. Nicely done and good to have you back sharing your travels.

Welcome back, once again Joan! I am so happy to see you back in tabblo. These are wonderful photos, especially the ones in and around Notre Dame. I shall never forget those stained glass windows. I am 'way behind with my tabblo-ing at the moment partly because I have a new computer, a Mac, so I am busy re-cataloguing all my photos. It takes for ever!

Great to hear from you again Joan! This collection shows Paris at it's best and I particularly like your intro photo, as it shows those small touches parisian style. I guess you will be a home bird for another short while until your new house is established. Best wishes to you and to yours!
Mike.

It is incredible how such intricate architecture could be created with no more than hand tools, AND lots of blood, sweat and tears. Thanks for a great tour, Joan. Really like those shots of the stained glass windows and the skylight.

Thanks to all for kind comments. Glad to be back. I haen't taken any photos for quite a long time, but still have a few on hand to display of a short trip we made in the Fall. It has been a busy year in 2007 first of all selling our previous 'retirement' bungalow, and then buying a new build home in the nearest town. The new place is slightly smaller with less maintenance, and is close to hospitals, clinics, restaurants and shopping. Our previous home was a 35 minute drive into town every time we wanted to buy anything, so it is a lot handier to be living here in the city of Cornwall. We found a nice quiet subdivision with open views at the back where our living room is situated. The house was being built from July to November when we finally moved on November 1st, and since then have been settling in, sorting ourselves out and getting settled.
I am hoping to be able to participate more in Tabblo now that all the moving experience is behind us.
