Color Drawings

Palm Tree, Needles CA. conte crayon

Two (2) Palms, conte crayon

Amaryllis, conte crayon

Chess Players, colored pencil

Skyscraper, watercolor and colored pencil

In Chinatown, prismacolor pencil

For the Lost, conte crayon

Robot Totem, conte crayon

Greyhound, conte crayon

Buddha, Golden Gate Park, SF, CA, watercolor and colored pencil

These are color drawings I did in the early 90's. Most of them are  based on photos, and combinations of photos, I had taken and felt would be good springboards  for color exploration and hand made marks. I dragged them out for a show this March at a local coffee shop, The Beanery.

Beautiful work. The coffee shop looks more like a college library common room.

Allan, these are wonderful. i knew they were yours before i read about them your use of light and shadow and perspective shine through as they so in your photos.. i am really in awe. i use conti a lot, too, and havent come close to mastering it. Thank you for showing us this side of your RIGHT side. Sweet TAbblo. Chess Players draws me right in. Greyhound seems to have a Hopper like feel, although it isn't fair to compare you, I love For the Lost, and I have just begun to scratch the surface of Skyscraper. So much there, again, your use knowledge of values is what really puts you there, in your fine art and photography.

PS How many Red Dots??

totally enjoyable tabblo, the drawings (yes Hopper came to mind fleetingly) but also the "feel" of the coffee shop where they were shown. Nice!

The wonderful shots of the coffee shop is perfect to showcase your drawing on Tabblo. And the drawings are stunning. I'm always in awe of artists who fill their canvases with such heart and soul and in-your-face talent. really like each one for it's uniqueness and pleasure they all give when i view them.

Thanks everyone for your great comments. LatentE: free wi-fi, laptops, and a nearby college give the coffee shop that look in the evening. It's one of those places with different ebb and flow of people depending on time of day. Pam: I plead ignorance on the red dots. Is that something to do with ancient divination practice of peeling label off beer bottle and attributing meaning based on number of dots? Thanks again everyone.
