I Am Pakistan by Umair Ghani

These faces emit an unprecedented zest for life. Their eyes shine like mirrors, visibly scratched with uncertain future and everyday misery initiated by successive governments’ total oblivion of their existence. Yet, under a thick veneer of a systematically contaminated media image, people of Pakistan continue to live with a fresh vitality. Their hopes and aspirations for a better tomorrow remain unharmed by the threats that traitors, puppet rulers and military dictators poise every now and then.

I AM PAKISTAN

I am an ancient land

When the whole world didn’t know

Even the ABC of anything

I gave the world

Its first cities

In Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro

I gave the world its first Alma

Where the paharohs came

To learn and govern

I nourished Buddha to Nirvana

Umair, your portrait shots are absolutely brilliant and intensely beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful glimpse at the beautiful people of Pakistan. It is through tabblos such as yours that we get to appreciate the real people in faraway lands, untainted by media stereotyping and political manipulation. I was most moved by the eyes of the faces - they were like deep pools of emotion and meaning touching my heart and drawing me closer in the desire to learn the stories behind each one of them!
