Adobe-art in San Geronimo

This nearly 300 year old hacienda - the name is San Geronimo - is in Soto Maines, Chihuahua, Mexico. It was nearly totally destroyed and the owner is now rebuilding it. The facinating thing is, that he is using the tradicional tecniques.

this is the rest of a chimny. ..strange way to make it-never saw the adicional ecliptic escape...and it was just the spare space in the walls!!!

i think it´s a facinating and very ecological way to built a house! And it is really good that they still make it! By the way - the walls are like 30 inches (80 cm) thick! so there is no need for an aircondicion...! And if you don´t care anymore about your house - it just becomes soil again - no pollucion!!! i think it´s worth it!!!

To make a wall you need a base made of stones - these fotos are from the original walls

here you can see some of the unrestored walls pretty damaged but still in a shape you can buildt them up again..

In order to build everything in an original way they make the adobes from the walls that had fallen down...and they make them like they made it 300 years ago! In front you can see the adobes drying and in the background you can observe some walls restored with this new adobes!

originaly the walls were covered with mud (see my finger just to see how thick it was!) and finally they put on some coats of lime/white wash.

here you can see the tradicional way to put a roof on a house...

inside a trunk (viga), over them some wooden boards (tableta), soil and the soil on top (little bit whiter-barreal) becomes like clay when it rains and so it seals...

This place reminds me of Dholavira, an ancient metropolitan city, about 2900 BCE, one of the largest and most prominent archaeological sites in India, belonging to the Indus Valley Civilization. I just love Historical Places. Thanks for sharing :-)
