JD Marlow. turns out he's one of mtvU's finalists for the best filmmaker on campus award. he's a good kid. Known him since freshman year of college when we all lived on the same floor. i have class with him now, actually. it's called "other cinema" and we talk about ethnographic films with this professor Jeff Silva, who makes his own documentaries and heads the Balagan Series. JD told me about his project this past summer where he spent a few weeks on a fishing ship to get action footage for his new documentary he's been working on. He got pretty sea-sick and was cabin bound for three days,  but ended up capturing amazing footage and developed a unique bond with the fishermen. I'm anxious to see the footage. I feel that JD is pretty monumental in this quiet, stoic sort of way. best of luck to him. Check out the contest here
