After ANZAC

Pool of Reflection

Roll of Honour

ANZAC Day is celebrated on 25 April. Australian and New Zealand Army soldiers landed at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915 to engage in the first major military action fought by ANZAC forces during the First World War. Although the Gallipoli effort was not a success, this day is set aside as an occasion of national commemoration to honour those who died in war. Dawn services are held at war memorials across Australia. These photos were taken the day after ANZAC at the War Memorial, Canberra. See http://www.awm.gov.au for more information about the Memorial.

I like your water and reflection effects, especially the third one. What an interesting pattern of the flowers on the Roll of Honour. Where in France had the Tomb of the Unknown soldier been?
Snooway said at 11:54 p.m. on Apr 28, 2008:
Thanks Saul, I'm not sure where in France the tomb was before arriving back in Australia.

This is really beautiful - many reflections, in both senses of the word. The coins in the water look like snowflakes, and the opening two pictures are particularly lovely together.

Sue, this is a wonderful tribute to WW1 soldiers...my Granfather served in the Canadian Expeditonary forces ...in ENgland , mainly France...digging trenches, fighting , and seeing terrible things I am sure. They lived dirty, and half starved most of the time...he died when I was very young, but we still have pictures and his journal. (see postcards fron the front tabblo in retro group) Thanks for doing this , and congrats on well deserved TOD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A Great Tribute to brave and special soldiers!
Snooway said at 7:26 p.m. on Apr 29, 2008:
Wow, ToD, thanks everyone! There usually aren't so many red poppies on the Roll of Honour but because of ANZAC day, many family/relatives/friends of the fallen soldiers visited and placed the flowers next to the names of their loved ones. Debbie, I will check out the postcards in the retro group.

An elegant tabblo filled with the dignity and grace of those remembered. Very moving! The reflections and the 'surface' accents of each shot hold me spellbound.

Beautiful photos. I was especially touched by the poppy flowers.

My grandfather also in WWI, he was in the Italian Navy and saw action in the Adriatic. Do they still wear poppies on Remembrance Day in Australia? Here, we don't anymore.

Well done, Bravo Zulu! :-)
