Please Bring Back Our Editing Control

This is a petition to let the folks at Tabblo know how much we love Tabblo and how much we loved what we could do with the editing controls that they've taken away. Please visit The forum, Tabblo Feature Requests or Tabblo Discuss to let them know your opinion. I'm not usually one to make waves, but I love Tabblo, and I'm very sad and frustrated that the new editing controls have taken away our ability to be individually creative with what we make. Without the choice of grids and manual options that use to be available, what we make now is limited only to the the pre-defined templates. Please help bring back our creative control.

I agree!!!!!! Since the change, I have tried several times to get a tabblo with images placed where I wanted them and given up in frustration as they snapped back to where they were. I love tabblo and the creative group of people I have met here but I will only be an occasional looker rather than a creator of tabblos if I can't put pictures where I want them.

That's 13 signatures so far, including mine. Please people this isn't a rebellion against Tabblo, it's just a means to let them know we liked what we had, and we'd like to have it back please.

If I was invited to a tabblo like this and I agreed with the petition, I'd wink because I'd want the tabblo to stay prominently where it can be viewed, and so signed by more people. ... I was going to ask that people do that, but I felt I didn't have the right to ask since it's not a very nice looking tabblo, even though I did try to present it as best as I could.

26! ... I've invited everyone that I knew that worked at tabblo, only one so far has visited, without commenting, and no one yet on the forums have addressed the increasing support for the removed editing controls. ... Maybe they have to have a meeting first?......

Me too....wasn't even able to view all the available styles, so I had to choose a "Make-do" template. I DO like the option of changing the size/style of the title font though....BUT I miss having the availability of italics in the text.

Ok. I have some positive feedback. I too, like the new title fonts. That to me is a huge plus. I also kinda like how the photos in the tray are easier to manage. when I made my last one, the functionality seemed to be a bit improved. My photos werent jumping all over the place, and I like how the tabblo saves itself now. But, It is MUCH easier to do this on my large screen iMac than it is to do on a PC.

We appreciate all the feedback and I encourage everyone to voice their opinions. The concerns about the grid selection hasn't fallen on deaf ears and we're aware that many of you are really missing it.

I used to get a lot of emails regarding difficulty with the floating editor box and the new design was meant to address some of those concerns, which I think it does pretty well. Shortly after we launched the new toolbar we added a few functional features and we'll probably add a few more over the coming weeks as feedback is gathered and analyzed.

This forum is a great place to voice your opinion and suggestions and request features . I encourage each and every one of you to do so and rest assured that we do peruse these forums daily, so your voices are being heard.

Eric - next time - floating a beta would be very helpful. Just a suggestion (I know that means resources and process changes you don't have - but you can see this is a huge deal and would be on Flickr too.

Thanks Dar... I wrote a feedback several days ago about the grid thing... I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one bothered by less freedom in creativity... hope they fix it soon...

I think whenever a change is made it takes us all time to adjust and get the kinks worked out. I've been working with an Access Database developer, and it's taken quite a while to get the database features set up the way I need them. Sound like we got the Tabblo Gods attention, and hopefully, Eric, will help us get what we need for our creativity. Remember, Baltimore wasn't built in a day. As a matter of fact, none of us was.

United we stand/Divided we fall. So for the time being, we can take Leftie's advice and buy eggs. LOL LOL

Like Pam stated above, there are many positives about the new editing controls. I for one LOVE that it's in tabs on the bottom; the ability to edit the font and colour of the title is great, and it DOES seem that the things are working a lot more smoothly and efficiently. But i agree with Bob, The Tabblo guys really should consider introducing major changes like this through a beta, or by simply asking us all what we think and what we would like to see. The forum 'Tabblo Feature Requests' is suppose to be just for that, but if the lack of response to the queries I post there is any indication, I can see why many people don't bother with that route. It's a shame that we have to get ourselves up in arms just to be heard.

I created this tab in direct response to a comment Eric made on 'Tabblo Feature Request' regarding the fact that there were only a few people who missed the grid options. I knew that couldn't have been the case since I've been seeing quite a number of innovative and creative layout designs on Tabblo since I've been here.

Apparently we DO have to stick together and throw eggs! <G>

I think everything will be fine later on after they get the bugs out of the system. I made my Gerbera tabblo with the new editing tools and at first, it seemed very strange and later on I found it to be easy. There are only a few things that need to be fine tuned and once they get that done, it should be allright. Changing in mid stream to another way of doing things would be a little harder at first.

I agree Mom; everyone boks (how do you spell that anyway?) at change, but the grid controls were something unique to Tabblo. I don't think there is any other place online, aside from creating your own web page, where people can have as much control over how they arranged their presentations. Tabblo has attracted a lot of creative people because of that fact, but without the grid choices, our control over what we make has been seriously hampered.

On the lighter side, it's very good that we are being heard now, and that we can offer our metaphoric tequila and brownies to Eric and the gang. :)

The thing that has bothered me the most is that I was totally surprised by the changes. There were definitely bugs and inefficiencies with the old system, but I kinda had them figured out. Then suddenly one day, it was completely different! Was there an announcement someplace, or a tutorial? Re; the new system, I miss the grid flexibility, too, and I'm struggling with too many options on colors, but the rest seems like it will just take time to learn.

I like the fact the tabs are on the bottom and that I can change the font through Safari now and not just Firefox. The things I miss are the grid and the option to preview. Thanks for giving us this format Dar!

Just wanted to let everyone know about the ingenious work around that Saul (Saulblum) discovered; if you make a variation of one of your tabs that you used one of the old grid options for, you get to work with the old grids for your new tabblo. You can then change just about everything in that variation, style, content, text, what have you, except for the layout. If you change the layout it will give you the large grid format that comes with it, and you will lose the grid.

We'll end up with a bunch of irrelevant links to old tabs, and an increasing list of tabblo variations on the bottom of our all tabblos page, but while we wait for the grid to come back, it's a clever work around. Thanks Saul! :)

You're welcome! :) You could find one of your old Tabblos with a fine grid and make a variation of it and delete all the photos from it, and use the new one as the basis for all your new Tabblos. I didn't think about the new ones cluttering up the "Variations" list at the bottom, but that's not much of a problem.

Thanks for this tab, DAR. I had thought I was the only one who missed the "search" engine, the grid and some other features.

I notice Tabblo is always improving and I usually stuck when I find something new - then, after some hesitation, I get used to the novelties and go ahead. But now it's a bit different. We have less than we had before (except for the colors, of course).

Why don't we make a list of suggestions and send it to Eric? I've been receiving agressive (offensive) messages and I wish there was a way to block some people, not allowing them to visit my tabblos, leave comments or send messages. It seems to be a simple tool.

I also miss editing tools for the comments (such as bold, italic, colors). That would make the comments much more interesting.

For now, I would be happy if we had "search" and "grid" back...

Eduardo, I'm sorry to hear you're getting nasty messages... yes I've seen block user tools on other member websites and forums; I wouldn't think it would be too difficult to implement either, since that sort of thing has been around for quite awhile now. But I don't really know what I'm talking about really, and I still advocate the use of the forums as a means of letting Tabblo know what we want.... And if that doesn't work again, ... well we'll just have to make another petition tabblo. <G>

Thanks everyone for your support on this; I really do think we got them to listen, and I got a rush out of trying to give something back to a community that gives me so much. ... but I'm not a union leader. ;)

There's gotta be a way to give Tabblo-ers better control not just in creating the tabblos but in blocking unwanted people too!

DAr, I don´t use anything of those things people speak about, but I know they were very usefull to improve creativity, so I agree with the petition, too.
Of course, I knew about agressive comments or mails, so I totally agree with a way to block them.

Oh my goodness! I was just going to stay out of this and go with the flow. But I just tried to make a simple tabblo and I can't get it to do anything I want. I can't even figure out how to change the background color. I'll not be making any more tabblos if things stay the way they are. And I just thought I'd done something to disappear the search capability. But I now see it is really gone. What were they thinking when they made these changes?

LOL! I thought it was my browser settings that I had difficulty controlling my images, I even tried to upgrade & Downgrade my ie browser to only make it worst for me. but good thing there's Dar to voice out things we all had in our minds =) I love being in Tabblo =)

I've been away for three days. Glad to see this tab. I sent them an e-mail. Maybe EVERYONE should, as back-up to this petition. Hit them with everything we've got. And if Eric, whoever that might be, doesn't make the changes, then pick a day, or better still, a week & don't post. You can do it. Just spend the time taking photos & getting them ready for when we can lay them out in the old-fashioned way.
