Hey, Souleymane!

l

C'est tout fini.  It's a wrap!

Here's the back story to my series on Festival International de

Louisiane. This festival is a non-profit enterprise, solely run by volunteers. I was  in the Les Amis des Artists  (Friends of the Artists ). This group of volunteers is the liason between the musicians and the community.  I had the fortune of being assigned to Habibe Koite and Bamada,  an internationally acclaimed  group of musicians, considered one of the premier acts of the fest.

I would like to thank Peggy Duhon  and her family for including me in this exciting endeavor, Renee' and Myron Lane, for their generous hospitality,  and my dearest friend Diane, for her excellent command of the French language and her endless patience with my gesturing and ridiculous attempts at "Franglais."

Laissez les Bon temps Rouler.

PK...singing off until next Festival.

Peace Out

First the air is filled with exitement, they're SO ready to get on stage - then the show ( and , may I add: cool pants) and after the show everybody is a bit tired.
Another great tabblo from you Pamela - thanx for sharing your experience :-)

Hey Bertil, thank YOU for your wonderful comments and insight into the whole musician experience. You know, you really "got" what I was trying to convey. I have spent a lot of time around musicians, and I just really love being in their space. I appreciate their artistic side, and I know the reality of the whole thing, as well. It's not that glamorous. the beauty of it all, to me, is seeing the shining light inside of them, and knowing the gift they have to offer, while trying to live on this earth as a human being. Kinda like what all artists feel.

I envy you this. This is my kind of music; It has a way of getting into your soul and giving it a voice. It must have been quite a rush to be right in the midst of all that energy ... and light. ... You caught the magic, as well as the less glamorous side, and made them real. My two favourite shots: the guitar player facing the crowd with the umbrella and the murals, and the blurry bus shot. Great work, thank you! :)

Neat. Full of life & energy. Your tabs are the 'real thing'.
SterlingGray said at 8:19 p.m. on May 18, 2008:
I really like how you captured what occurs behind all of the glamour of the stage. There is years of learning, practice, more setbacks than successes (the blurry photo - one of my favorites), more practice, lots of patience before maybe – a big maybe – you hit it big time (carte blache - another favorite) – big time being relative just being able to enjoy what you are doing to having number one hits (last photo - ultimate favorite) Wonderful Tabblo.

The tabblo is similar to a symphony with a slow opening movement and with each layer increasing in tempo and a finale of quite grace. Excellent.

Pkeener said at 12:35 p.m. on May 22, 2008:
WOW. so many great comments. I really think the subjects made this tabblo. What a wonderful group of people they are. You can tell by the way they allowed me into their world, just how cool they are. They tour world wide, so keep your eyes open. I guess it's considered "World Music" but I think it's a whole lot more. Crosses over into many genres.

Don't you need an assistant, PAM? It would be great to join you the musicians during the next Festival. My Franglais is even worse than my English, but my gesturing is not bad at all. And I promise not to call you groupie nor roadie...
