WANTED!

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS DEER?

Well, maybe not this one, ... but one that looks very much like it. WANTED for GARDEN VANDALISM and TRESPASSING, CHEWING off the tops of tender young Bush Bean seedlings, TASTE-TESTING the leaves of a Brussel Sprout Plant, and for generally causing UNWHOLESOME THOUGHTS in the gardener, as to what she would LIKE TO DO TO THE CULPRIT IF SHE EVER CAUGHT IT RED HOOFED!

Awe . . . that is one busy deer! Very precise ;-)
AliDar said at 6:30 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
LOL :)
PaulBarfoot said at 6:32 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
Hey! Bambi has to eat too!
AliDar said at 6:37 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
I Know. sigh.... I would have given it a carrot...
Tishfish said at 6:37 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
You'll have to hang some plastic bags so they flap in the wind, it will scare them off for awhile. Or put up a scarecrow and maybe the deer will think it's human. If that all fails, you'll have to put some kind of human scent and hope the wind takes it to his/her nose.
Emmabro said at 6:41 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
aw I'm so glad that slugs are my only main problem ..but the deer is a lot cuter !!!!
AliDar said at 6:42 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
Plastic bags sound like a good idea, but human scent is everywhere, we live in the city
AliDar said at 6:46 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
I know Emma! it could have least stuck around long enough for me to get a photo of it! <G>
JuDeck said at 6:49 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
Dar...you need to put little baby cap lids around your garden and fill them up with beer....oh no, that for the slugs. Maybe Prof Amiga Linda will be able to educate us all on the habits of the Northern Canadian Island Deer.
AliDar said at 6:52 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
Hmmmmm, nope, can't do that, it would use up too much beer... <G> ... maybe you're right, maybe prof Amiga Linda could do some research for me.
Hhwind said at 7:01 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
It may be a problem but a least you get nature around you
Rheap said at 7:04 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
Dear Dear!... :-)
AliDar said at 7:05 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
LOL. <G>
AliDar said at 7:09 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
Actually Teo (is it Teo?) I'd rather not have them around me, but not for my garden's sake, but because there's quite a few busy streets around here, and it's dangerous for them. Seems like the deer population in Victoria is going up, and that only means that the places where they live are being taken over by us humans.
AliDar said at 7:15 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
Jude, I decided to drink the beer instead of offering it to the slugs. <G>
ConnieL said at 7:40 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
Ah, one of the peril of gardening. I have a cousin who gets hair from the barber and puts it around his garden...he says it makes a difference.
Debdog said at 8:47 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
nibble, nibble ..........
AliDar said at 9:00 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
Thanks Connie; I cut my own hair so maybe I'll save some up for next year. ... Ooooo Deb! You're just egging me on. <G> You guys know me too well to know that I can't think mean and nasty thoughts about a poor little urban deer for too long, ... I want to be angry at it though! It ate my beans!
21-gramm said at 9:00 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
Dar! I wrote to the plate for bembi: Honey, you will get sweet carrot, just ask!
The question is only once, you should teach her to read!
Tips Doreen as usual exhaustive!
LOL!

de jeunes pousses vert-tendre bien appétissantes, irrésistibles pour Bambi. Mais je compatis. Salut mon amie.
Cowgirl said at 9:52 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
I have a Gal that works with me at school .. she sprays this stuff all over her garden and it works .. Will get the name and of it for you ... nice pic of the deer.....
YorkJodi said at 10:05 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
So sad about your garden... yes... at the least a photo of it would have been nice... tonight stay up waiting, camera in hand ;P
AliDar said at 10:45 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
Great idea Dennis; maybe city dwelling deer know how to read... I'm working on the sign now: Yo doe, let the bean sprouts chill, and there;ll be a juicy root for you in yonder domicile, you dig? <G>

Merci Thierry; I don't blame bambi either; I like my salad greens young and tender too!

Bobbie I think that stuff your friend told you about is made of Capsian (sp?) or hot pepper oil. I have some of it in pellet form, and tried using to keep the cats out of the garden; only trouble with that though is, even though it's organic, you can't put it near your food plants, but I'm going to give it a try sprinkling it on the ground near where I think they enter the yard. And Jodi, I got my camera ready, just in case. :)
SterlingGray said at 10:54 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
Aww man, I hate to see that for all of the hard work you and Ali put into that garden. As for getting the deer to go to another garden, I like the beer idea best, but not sure it will work for the deer or slugs. I would go with the hair idea, I think I saw that in a movie, if I remember correctly, The Rookie with Dennis Quaid. If that doesn't work. try Listerine, no hang on, that is for mosquitoes. Well, if all else fails, a nice little white picket fence would be wonderful.
Wildthing said at 1:39 a.m. on Jun 6, 2008:
Lion pee will keep the deer at bay. Who do you know at the local zoo?
DocEna said at 7:30 a.m. on Jun 6, 2008:
Thats the LAW OF NATURE.....SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST AND SMARTEST...WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE?

only in Canada. any grizzly bears?
Pkeener said at 9:59 a.m. on Jun 6, 2008:
Lion pee??? I like sterlings idea. a white picket fence.
Bxrgirl27 said at 10:12 a.m. on Jun 6, 2008:
Hee hee! My Mom had the same problem in her garden. She took a couple of tomatoe stakes (the tall red metal ones) and then tied some string to them... all the way around the garden till it was "boxed in" and then she tied plastic shopping bags to the string. The bags float in the breeze and make noise and startle the deer if they try to "cross the line." Works like a charm so far!
Candlepower said at 10:49 a.m. on Jun 6, 2008:
Whoa she really did in your garden. Need to get some Lifeboy soap and hang it around your garden. Keeps deer away! Good luck!
JuDeck said at 11:25 a.m. on Jun 6, 2008:
Lion pee?!?.....ok, who holds the bottle? You have a lot of options to try out now Dar, try them all at once and maybe the combination of all will even keep humans out....LOL.
AliDar said at 1:01 p.m. on Jun 6, 2008:
Hey everyone, thanks for visiting this not so serious, but personal venting tabblo of mine. <Grin> Your comments and suggestions made me laugh, just what I needed to get over my little tantrum. Lets see, I have to put up some plastic bags, and possibly pee in the bushes on a regular basis to leave a strong human scent... Make offerings of beer and listerine, scatter human hair clippings all around, pepper spray the area, post Dennis's and my signs, hoping the deer can read and will come knocking on the door for a carrot instead, build a white picket fence, ... which would have to be over 6 feet high because deer can jump at least that from a standstill, make friends with a zoo keeper who's willing to squat beneath a lion when he relieves himself, make a fence around the garden using tomato cages and twine, tie more plastic bags, Lifeboy soap bars, ... and this privately from Prof Amiga herself, hang bells and tin can around it to make a musical fence. ... This should work! ... I can see it now, I'll get arrested for public nudity, fined for littering, be picking hairs out of my salad for weeks, I won't be able to sleep for all the noise caused by the fluttering plastic bags and tinkling bells, so I should be able to get some good shots of the deer when they come to accept my offerings of beer and carrots, or when they drop by in the morning for a shower and a breath freshening, but if after all of this, and I'm able to get into the garden myself without becoming tangled in the twine fencing, I will have the best garden ever! :)
AliDar said at 1:03 p.m. on Jun 6, 2008:
Doc, definitely alive!. I'd much rather have to just plant more bean seeds then have a dead bambi on my conscious!
AliDar said at 1:21 p.m. on Jun 6, 2008:
Annelies, no grizzlys yet, but I didn't use salmon meal for fertilizer. <G>
Tishfish said at 1:27 p.m. on Jun 6, 2008:
I go along with the lion pee or human pee, buat good luck in trying to get the lion to pee in the bottle.
Siagian said at 6:30 p.m. on Jun 6, 2008:
LOL! bambi probably thought you had left him some treats in your garden!!! =)
Shenresi said at 3:00 a.m. on Jun 7, 2008:
wow, it`s a great idea what Doreen said with the plastic bags. May be it works, Dar and you can scare them. When not, you have a lot of rubbish , no plants and the basis for a good waste disposal side- lol -
Shenresi said at 7:53 a.m. on Jun 7, 2008:
sorry, Dar, I don`t wanted to make a hard comment, I only wanted to joke a little bit- I hope you`re not angry with me ?!!
Jerii said at 11:53 p.m. on Jun 7, 2008:
Your poor seedlings! Just seeing them all nibbled away is so sad, but the comments on this tabblo are hilarious! If worse comes to worse, you can still buy veggies at the store and give up the gardening. But where's the challenge in that?
Lifequest22 said at 12:25 a.m. on Jun 10, 2008:
Dar--I don't care what it takes-Beer, Lion pee, scarecrows, grizzlie pee, , lifeboy soap, or you sitting sentinel all night--you have to protect that garden. I'm looking forward to the salad and cookout we are planning. :)))
AliDar said at 1:00 a.m. on Jun 10, 2008:
I'm still taking care of it.... I was hoping the beans would come back since the deer had very precisely left the new growth leaves in the center, but they're not looking very happy these days. ... There are a ton of radishes though, so if anyone wants any, please feel free to drop by, do it quickly though or else soon they'll be the size of rutabagas. I think I'm going to have to plant a new patch of them so that there will be some for our tabblo bbq. . Both the red and green leaf lettuces, and the spinach will be ready to start picking probably this week... We're going to have salad greens coming out of our ears! :)
AliDar said at 1:04 a.m. on Jun 10, 2008:
Hey Angela, I didn't think your comment was hard at all! I enjoyed it; I've been joking a bit too; It's all in good fun, and I'm sure everyone knows it. :)
Msisongkram said at 3:14 a.m. on Jun 10, 2008:
Dar, I'm sorry of what the deer did to your garden but it is sure fun to have them around. Stunning shot and she is so cute looking. Will be nice and fun to hang around your garden and waiting for the deer to appear. It is not easy to have such a nature shot nowadays!
Shenresi said at 2:20 p.m. on Jun 11, 2008:
