nature's way~life and death

Chrysalis 2 days ago

Go gently back to the earth little one

What a joy to help a little life :)

hope this one is OK

Death is beautiful when seen to be a law, and not an accident - It is as common as life.

~Henry David Thoreau, 11 March 1842, letter to Ralph Waldo Emerson

One of two emerged  strong, and healthy!  :)

3 of 4 this week.

After drying it's wings in the sun,it crawled onto my finger.

I gave it a little kiss goodbye, and it flew away.   :)

It was a good day.

The chrysalis just before butterfly emerges

This am 2 emerged,I just missed it

Last chrysalis, not quite ready, new butterfly in background

2 empty chrysalis,I can only find one butterfly!

I found this poor little one on the deck...it's wings would not open, and it's very weak.I place him on a plant to let nature take it's course...SAD

A beautiful new life

Wonderful documentation. A great set & layout. Don't agree with Thoreau, though. Death isn't beautiful, it's a sad finality. That's why we strive to extend our time here. Very few people give up a single second of life willingly.

Debdog said at 8:49 a.m. on Jun 10, 2008:
thanks everyone, yes Mike...I thought this fitting perhaps for the butterfly...it is beautiful, crumpled and all... I can only think it;s nature's way because something was wrong...no intervention..just letting the natural play out. Sad and true.

Beautiful tabblo. I have seen the monarchs emerge a few times. It is an amazing process how their wings are folded and they pump them up and then let them dry. You have documented and decorated this story so nicely. I love the translucent chrysallis where you can see the pattern of the wings!
