São João

Celebrating St. John is one of the most popular Brazilian traditions. There are balloons, colorful flags, fire, typical food, dance and even some religion involved.

 

This party happened last weekend at my condo. Too noisy for my taste, yet so candy to the eye.

As Festas Juninas... Qué saudade de...Recoleta. ¿Loco? No: hace mil años participé en la preparacion de esas fiestas, con la embajada de Brasil y su sede de idiomas ¡¡en el Centro Cultural Recoleta!! Nunca estuve en Brasil en junio...
Los banderines sobre la cancha parecen fichas en un tablero de mesa.

My favourite shot - the shadows of the flags and palms! I also like the ones looking down onto the ball court (?) but I can't help thinking of the poor pigeons getting themselves tangled in the green mesh. ... By any chance are we able to see your condo in any of the shots looking up at the building? I see one with lots of plants growing on the balcony.

Conhece a música? Provavelmente não. É de um grupo do nordeste - Mastruz com Leite. Imagino que não faça parte do seu repertório. Morei em Pernambuco (Recife) por 6 anos. O São João é uma das festas mais badaladas mesmo. Acho que só perde para o Carnaval de Recife e Olinda. Ai que saudade!!!
