gelsenkirchen - anti nazi demos during the worldcup on June 9, 2006

on saturday 3 anti nazi demonstrations took place in the city of Gelsenkirchen. About 5.000 people resembled at different places.

The NPD with 200 participants gathered outside the city centre and got barely audience. Their intended march to a southern suburb failed as local residents blocked their way through the streets. So they gave up after a few hundred metres.

the guys with the green flags are police officers. When wavings their flags they are just applauding to a speaker expressing his solidarity with those agents who have to guard extremists gatherings despite their own convictions.

The pic on the right shows a former member of parliament of NRW, Hans Frey, the current mayor of Gelsenkirchen, Frank Baranowski and the presenter of the rally, Bernd Matzkowski.
