Dim Sun

Photos taken out my living room window this morning. The air is filled with smoke and it smells like a campfire. You can almost look right into the sun, it's light is so dim.

It's been like this all week, with over one thousand separate wildfires burning north, east, and south of the City.

Thus far, 250 square miles have burned and fires continue to be discovered. There's so much smoke and it's so dense, fire spotters can't see through it. One fire, 2,500 acres in size, that has been burning since last weekend was discovered just yesterday.

Food for thought, Matt. What or who is starting the fires, does anyone know?

These were actually mostly started last weekend when a rare electrical storm (with no rain) passed over the area. I believe I heard that there were over 8,000 recorded lightning strikes over Northern and Central California (by midwestern standards, not a lot for such a large area), but with the dry conditions they sparked 800-1000 separate fires. Patty - yes I couldn't resist the pun myself. :)

ironic that something so awful can produce such a beautiful effect

All that prime timber turned into lung chocking smoke. So sad!

I saw in the news about these rampaging fires in your area! I have friends there and I hope and pray you are all okay. Wow, 8,000 lightning strikes!!! Mother Earth is plenty mad about the global warming, I guess.

Man, I am out of touch with the news. I didn't know about this. Yikes.

Sad incident. We in Malaysia suffer this consequence most when our neighbour sets fire to the padi fields in order to clear the area, every year !!!
