Fire in the Neighborhood

This cute little blue house is just two houses south of ours.  It doesn't look so bad, but the man who bought it wanted to get rid of it and build a duplex on the lot...

So Thursday evening the fire department did a controlled fire and training session and burned it to the ground.

Here are just a few of the 210 photos I took as one of the many onlookers...

Do you see the ghost in the window at the right?? This is only one of the photos where he shows up... Strange!!

Another photo has a strange fire ball in the doorway...

About 10:30 Thursday night above... there's not much left...

Friday morning at 7 it is still smoldering...

The end of a building... the trees, I'm afraid, are next to go...

So Sad!!!

Amazing pictures Jodi! What a great photo op. I love the secondone of the lone figure in the light streaked smoke - but of course the flames are most dramatic.

Fire is so fascinating! So cool that you were able to be there to photograph this- these are great shots!! I love the firefigheter in the smokey trees...and the strange fireball!!

Nice set of images. HOT! :D

You got some terrific shots of the house being burned. And, yes, that does look like a figure standing at the window. Maybe it's the ghost of a previous owner. He'll no doubt haunt the duplex when it gets built :)

Awesome, I love the firefighters silhouette in the window I think it is on picture 7.....maybe it is a ghost? lol thought it was a firefighter! Great Pics!

It does look like a firefighter in the window, even has the right type of hat on... but no one was ever inside by this point in the fire. So it must be "a ghost" ;p ... and yes, I think he will stay & haunt the duplex once it's built.

This is really sad Jodi, hope everybody is ok... anyway you did a fantastic job with this photos, #2 is amazing!

Interesting stuff and very cool shots!! I love the first fire shot. That is awesome! Seems like a lot of unnecessary pollution. ?!? We sure are wasteful in the U.S. Even houses are disposable. I am becoming a Green freak. If we cut down trees, we should be required to plant two to replace them, I think (only exception would be a diseased tree that is a danger)! Just my opinion.

Photos remarkable. Interesting. Bright. Good shots. But fire - very terrible elements. A sad show.
MichelleMc said at 11:24 a.m. on Jun 28, 2008:
are you messing with me Jodi? Is that really not a fireman? lol!!!! I am tripping out now! lol
Msisongkram said at 11:24 a.m. on Jun 28, 2008:
Thank you for sharing, Jodi, I agreed it was so upset and depressed to withness it but you did a wonderful job by capturing all these.
Hhwind said at 11:47 a.m. on Jun 28, 2008:
Nice set, interesting, the image in the house looks like a fireman with a helmet and the fireball is some kind of energy i presume, cool
YorkJodi said at 11:47 a.m. on Jun 28, 2008:
Not messing with you Michelle... They were inside earlier but by the time of these photos were done training on the inside. Noe, the fire was set on purpose to destroy the house & give the firefighters an opportunity to train. No one was ever in any danger. Marci, I agree with you about the trees... one is over 4' in diameter... so sad to cut them down but they were almost too close to this house so no room for another... Wish we could make a park instead of a duplex... not that's an idea... ha!!

Thanks everyone for your comments... I'm glad you found this interesting... I enjoy hearing from you all...

great photo's in such a harrowing situation !!! the second shot is amazing and that figure in the window ? spooky !!!

Very nice tabblo. A great story! I don't understand why they had to put the house on fire to destroy it. That could never been done in Portugal. But your photos are wonderful!!!

Great shots and the ghost shot is very cool.
Jerii said at 1:07 p.m. on Jun 28, 2008:
These are great shots! A house fire with no tragedy attached. Makes it so much easier to enjoy the photos. It is sad about the trees though. They look so old and stately.

Really intersting! Thank You!
Mirella said at 3:35 p.m. on Jun 28, 2008:
Beautiful reportage indeed, but why not to demolish the house without the fire and without the suffering of the near trees ?only for a training session ? It looks strange to me....................

WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess it was a free or cheaper way for him to get the house torn down....
To close ...... to other homes ,,,, CRAZY
MichelleMc said at 4:13 a.m. on Jun 29, 2008:
Check out fourth one up on right side from the "ghost image" shot, is that another image of a firefighter?? Or is it an actual firefighter? I'm so into this tabblo, I love it! lol

Woah.. SO intense.. That ghost seems like it was from hell.. Scary! Hahaha!

so strong, Jodi! great work! I hope you OK! Take care from fire!
EmeraldWitch said at 10:43 a.m. on Jun 29, 2008:
Perhaps an idea to post a close up of the window where the "ghost" is.. The hat looks more like a construction hat.. Perhaps someone that built the house is waving goodbye?
YorkJodi said at 12:10 p.m. on Jun 29, 2008:
If you click on the photo, it does get bigger... don't think tabblo has a bigger (than that) format for a photo... it does look like a construction hard hat... and Michelle is right, there is another ghost in another photo... maybe a tab with only the ghosts... hmmm... a plan for tomorrow... I'll do that...

Fantastic photos - even this "controlled" burning of a house is frightening!
Hellodear said at 5:00 p.m. on Jun 29, 2008:
How well are the people in that house?

I'm curious about their well being. No doubt shots are amazing. How about their life?

Thanks

I esspecially like the second photograph, magnificent work!

you have some great shots but what a terrible waste to burn a perfectly good house
at a time when the world is in recession and are trying to stop wasteing money
still you made something out of it.
the first picture is very good with the sunrays through the trees& the fire pictures are realy very good i think if i was a piromaniac i would get a big thrill out of these

I think I couldn't tell you properly. They are now going to cut the trees around it to build a duplex.. I'm thinking about that and typed an uninteresting comment earlier.

Excuse me,
Kam

It is always something definite with fires and burning, even the controlled ones. Well reported and illustrated!
AliDar said at 3:01 p.m. on Jul 2, 2008:
I agree with Paul on which one is my favourite; It's just a very beautiful photo, but I also agree that the flames are much more dramatic, ... and wow! that really does look like a figure in that shot! ... it gave me goosebumps! ... Also, the shot with the strange fireball seems to have a portrait like figure, just up and to the left of it. ... Oh my... I guess it's like looking for images in clouds, because in the photo beneath the fireball one there looks to be a figure wearing an apron in doorway. ... Wonderful documenting, and very cool and creepy ghost like captures!
