We all have our own problems to muddle through, and should (but can't) rely on government to make the streets safe, ensure that no one has to sleep on a bench, and protect us from the gradual spiralling down into a drug & gun culture. Unfortunately, taxes are wasted on pointless wars, and society suffers as a whole.
Pkeener said at 4:24 p.m. on Oct 10, 2008: #1 is disturbing in many ways. i keep thinking how vulnerable she is just lying there. not to mention the fact that she is indigent. her crutches make a strong statement. the sleeping dog. i wonder if it is hers? #2 doesn't do anything for me. #3 makes me mad. but also curious as to whether its garbage or a body or something!
Patrickterencelim said at 10:24 p.m. on Oct 10, 2008: Dear Joe, Tunderke & Wilthing, thanks for visiting my tabblo and for the comments. Dearest Pam, it is so nice to hear from you again after my long absence from tabblo. I have been busy with work, having completed my BA(Hons), my father having a heart attack and recovering. Just trying to find time to do the things I like to do is so tough.
Picture #1 is disturbing to me too because in a first world country like Singapore, where affluence abounds, there are people still left behind. This was taken at a slum area of Singapore, like a ghetto, where foreign workers from India congregate and cheap prostitutes peddle their wares. Sad and shocking sight for even me, having done missionary work with the poor in East Malaysia and in the Philippines. I did not have my Canon with me so I whipped out my iPhone and captured this glimpse into the 'back door' of Singapore.
I do believe the crutches were hers, considering that there is only one slipper on the ground.
Pam, if you take #2 on it's own and see #3 in isolation, the former is meaningless and the latter a little questioning. But together ...

Melindaveronicaee said at 12:29 p.m. on Nov 14, 2008: Hey Pat...hmm #1 is very disturbing to me. Poor old lady sleeping on a couch someone threw out. What happened to being a gracious society...HA! What happened to the salvation army or the other donations that we give to these societies....Hmmm I just wonder ??? #2- What can I say! Not everyone wants to be a witness to something that happened cause they are all scared of the responsibility that comes after they report what they saw! "TOO TROUBLESOME, WHY BE A KPO FOR???? #3...oh ya ! Littering....Singapore is such a clean country, so beautiful and green, thats what they proclaim on the ads on tv but then when u look around some idiot will be littering or spitting... guess these people don't know how to read the sign boards that say " DO NOT LITTER, Fine $500" ...They should probably put up these signs in several languages and dialects so that people who can't read ENGLISH will understand....Excuses! Excuses ! Tsk ! Tsk ! It's so SAD !
Melindaveronicaee said at 12:31 p.m. on Nov 14, 2008: Oh forgot to mention another thing...wonder whats in that black bag? Hmmm....when u piece picture 2 and 3 together...ok thats creepy !
Welshchick said at 6:57 p.m. on Dec 6, 2008: Yes, it makes me very sad...I wish they could all be surrounded with love and in a warm bed...with enough to eat and safe and secure from harm. It takes us all to care about her...
GryphonHeart said at 12:32 p.m. on May 10, 2009: as for the first pic, from a medical point of view, that crutches are hers, as she has only one leg, that explain for only one tong on the floor. It sickens me to see these, and I see so many of them on the streets of Melbourne city too... not many during the cold weather tho, like now, it's autumn. As for teh second and third... gosh... sickens me even more, cos, someone left dead in a trash bag, and no one knows, and police have to seek for witness... how sad the society we make out of it these days... with poor upbringing and most parents DON"T teach their child/children well at all anymore... no manners, no respect for things and what more... gosh....
Anyway Pat, i'm glad i'm going back to see u all soon in Aug!! YAY!! told my mom. Sorry that i can't make it for daddy's birthday, send my blessings to him please! THANKS MUCH!!
