Renowned Civil War historian, James "Bud" Robertson entertained a full house at the Roanoke County Public Library on the evening of April 6, 2005.
Dr. Robertson enlightened us on how innovations and inventions developed out of necessity during the Civil War are now part of our everyday lives. Afterward, he autographed books and visited with his fans. |

James I. (Bud) Robertson, Jr. is the Alumni Distinguised Professor and Executive Director of the Virginia Center for Civil War Studies at Virginia Tech. Professor Robertson is nationally recognized as a outstanding Civil War scholar, author and speaker.
Dr. Robertson has recieved the 1997 Douglas Southall Freeman Award for his book Stonewall Jackson: The Man, The Soldier, The Legend. He was the leading historical consultant for the film, Gods and Generals.
Bud is a native of Danville, Virginia. He received his B.A. from Randolph-Macon College and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Emory University. Dr. Robertson has written or edited over twenty books, and has received every major honor bestowed in the field of Civil War history.
