Cuervo, NM has only three inhabited homes I could verify, all on the same lot. This is a ghost town by any definition. Once an important stop on Route 66 before the climb out of the Canadian River Valley, the Interstate and modern vehicles have made it extraneous. The unnamed church is also unused. The mountain in the background is Cuervo Mesa (Cuervo means "raven"). The structure at bottom left is the largest in the entire village but has no name or even a driveway to it. It also isn't close to the road, implying a home of someone important or a lodging place. (back view) The photo at upper right is across I-20 from the "business district" which consists of an auto repair shop, two offices, and several unused buildings. I couldn't get a picture since "No Parking" signs were liberally posted along the frontage road because of the freeway construction. More details at CRV Cuervo. |
