Trim Greenhood

This is a widespread common species in Victoria. It can grow in large colonies. This one was in a colony of very small Trims,  just 3-4 cm tall. They can grow to 20 cm.

 

 

Cobra Greenhood

More than 60 species of Greenhoods occur in Victoria. The Cobras are in decline and it is a bit unusual to see them. They like foothill forest habitat.

Parson's Bands

There are 8 species of Eriochilus endemic to Australia. Cucullatus is the only one in Victoria. It can be found growing in a wide variety of habitats.

Four of about 30 species of Acianthus occur in Victoria. They can grow in large colonies and prefer a heathy woodland habitat. This tiny orchid has a flowerhead of just a few mm.

Thank you the info about orchids. I read once (and i still have trouble accepting) that victoria has over 700 types of orchides. Thank you for sharing these 4

Thanks Brian. Getting some nice rain down here at present, so we are hopeful for a good spring wildflower show.
