Mt Rainier & Mt St. Helens, Summer 2006

This summer we took some trips to the mountians. On June 28th and July 1st we went to Mt. Rainier. On July 8th we went to visit Mt. St. Helens.

Our first visit to Mt Rainier on June 28th took us to the south face at an altitude of about 5400 feet to a place called Paradise.

The ride up to Paradise was very pretty, and when we arrived we found a great deal of snow still on the ground.

It interesting because the day was warm, people were skiing and we were playing in the snow.

Mt Rainier is a volcano that rises up to about 14,400 feet.

On July 2 we went back to Mt. Rainier, but this time we went to a 6400 foot level on the north face called Sunrise.

We took a short hike, flew a kite and enjoyed the views.

Lastly, on July 8th we went to visit Mt. St. Helens. Mt. St. Helens had a big eruption in 1980 when it lost its top 1500 feet of mountian.

This volcano is still active. It has been undergoing a slow eruption since 2004. If you look carefully you can see some smoke rising from a small but growing cone inside the crater.
