Road Trip to Ithaca, NY

On the Drive out to Ithaca, we stopped in at the Howe Caverns. They were neat, but in my opinion could have had a less touristy feel to them. All the colored lights didn't really do it for me.

I did like the stone formations on the ceiling though, so I took a picture of them. Can you see the three different colors?

We filled up for gas right off the highway after a couple hours of driving. The front of the Jeep (and the windshield) was covered in bugs! Oh, and the gas $3.14. Ouch!

We went out to Ithaca to see Cornell's Steel Band which Dan (in the red) had played in when he was a student. It was fun, but not as picturesque as hiking this gorge the next day. These to shots were taken from the over look across the gorge from the 100ft falls.

Next we hiked up and around the gorge rim, and I got this shot on the left of the falls from a different angle. Further up the gorge we saw to large hawks flying around, but I wasn't able to capture them.

After lunch we hiked through the bottom of the gorge. Krista really liked the outcropping on the right, so I snapped a shot of it for her.

At the end of the path is the bottom of the falls! (Yes I broke the rules to be that close.)

On the walk out we mostly stayed on the river bed. These last small falls are at the entrance.

That evening we made it back to Cornell for the evening concert in the clock tower. Cornell's clock tower has a fully functional clarion, and there's a group of students who try out each year to be chimemasters. During a concert you can climb the tower and look around. The views are great!

After the concert we went to the Cornell Plantations where they have a botanical garden and some sculptures. These ones were from the final project of the class of 1964.

The next day we went to a number of wineries in the area, but that sorta thing doesn't lend itself to picture taking. You'll just have to come along next time!

Hey Pitkin's brother,

This is a wonder use of Tabblo. I don't even like Ithaca but I was glued to your narrative.
