Hermit Island

On the coast of Maine, just an hour north of Portland, is a small piece of heaven called Hermit Island.  It's a private campground on the tip of one of the many glacialy carved fingers extending down into Casco bay.

Among the islands many nice campsites are a handful of spectacular ones overhanging the water.  On this trip my wife Jayne and I managed to get one of the best.

We walked the island during the day and stopped to take some photos at this cool old anchor they have.

Our fire pit was a stones throw from the water on a high rock bluff situated perfectly for watching the sun set.

The area for the tent was a little further up the slope in a grove of bushes

Jayne passed the time waiting for sunset working on her swing.

The fire was blazing and we opened a bottle of red wine to toast the end of the day.

As darkness fell we stoked the fire and settled in for the night

I've been going for 20+yrs and won't ever stop. It's good to see others as passionate about H.I. as I am.

Thanks for the kind comments, and what a beautiful page, petelyons. We are very, very pleased at how many people enjoy the island and we hope to continue operating for many years to come. However, we do NOT want people to think the latest source of information is at the unofficial site listed by Pesacco. Our OFFICIAL website is the only source of complete and accurate information. It is maintained by the owners of the campground. In fact, we've asked Pesacco to make his site a personal webpage instead of anything resembling an official website for our business. Unfortunately, he has chosen not to do this, but has instead added the word "unofficial" to the title of his page. We would prefer if he could make a personal website like this one made by petelyons. Please check our www.hermitisland.com for the most accurate information as well as pictures of almost every one of our 275 campsites.
